The Stavridis Group uses artistic and professional disciplines which focus on visual communication and presentation. Various methods are used to create and combine symbols, images and/or words to create a visual representation of ideas and messages.

Composition is one of our designers’ strengths, especially when using pre-existing materials or diverse elements. The Stavridis Group considers graphic design to be the art of communication. We believe that our work is a visual tool to be used to inform, educate, influence and persuade for the benefit of our clients.

The Stavridis Group graphic designers can assist you with a complete brand design/redesign across all media.

Generally, all the principles of design, also known as principles of composition, apply to any piece we create you. How we apply those principles determines how effective our design will be in conveying the desired message and how attractive it will appear. To ensure excellent results, we follow these six principles of good graphic design:

  • VISUAL BALANCE

Visual balance in graphic design comes from arranging elements on the page so that no one section is heavier than the other. Or, our designer may intentionally throw elements out of balance to create tension or a certain mood.
  • UNITY

In graphic design, the proximity/closeness of elements on a page invokes a bond between them and their audiences. How close together, or far apart, the elements are placed suggests a relationship (or lack of) between otherwise disparate parts. Unity is also achieved by using a third element to connect distant parts. Are title elements together? Is contact information all in one place? Do frames and boxes tie together or separate related elements in your document? These are all things to consider.
  • ALIGNMENT

Alignment brings order to chaos. How we align type together, graphics together, as well as type and graphics together on a page, can decide on whether our layout becomes easier/more difficult to read. It can also decide on whether it fosters familiarity, or brings excitement to a stale, graphic design. If it is ever required that certain elements be out of alignment, we will do so purposefully with a specific graphic design goal in mind.
  • REPETITION

Repeating design elements, including type and graphics styles within a document, shows a reader where to go and assists them to navigate our designs and layouts effectively. With every document we create, we ensure the utilisation of repetition, consistency, and unity in page design.
  • CONTRAST

In graphic design, big and small elements, black and white text, squares and circles, can all create contrast in design. We use contrast to help different design elements stand out.
  • WHITE SPACE

Designs which attempt to cram too much text and/or graphics all into one page are uncomfortable to look at, and may even be impossible to read. White space gives our designs breathing room. For every graphic design, we normally ask ourselves: ‘Do we have enough space between columns of text?’, ‘Does text run into frames or graphics?’, or, ‘Do we have generous margins?’ White space can change everything.
  • WE USE THE POWER OF PHI

We appreciate the incredible beauty and design in the world around us, and from this, we apply the same formula for beauty to our own creative works. We are following the thoughts of many great minds before us; from ancient civilizations to the Renaissance, to the best of class in all areas of today’s arts and design.

God, the mathematician, created our world using the golden number for everything beautiful. This Golden number is called …

    PHI = 1.618

This number is also known as the Divine Proportion, the Golden Mean, the Golden Ratio or the Golden Number, and it has revealed itself in all corners of the known universe.

Many famous artists and architects, such as Leonardo da Vinci and Phideas, proportioned their works to match the Golden Ratio, particularly in the form of the Golden Rectangle. They held strongly that this proportion created aesthetically pleasing and beautiful design work. This Golden Ratio is found in the design of countless historical monuments and structures; including the Parthenon, the Pyramids and the Mona Lisa.
